Application IC NAME. Adam Daryl Wicks. NICKNAMES. Freckles, due to the large amount he has on his arms. GENDER. Male. AGE. 25. BIRTHDAY. June 14th, 1982. SEXUAL ORIENTATION. Adam's sexuality has had many twists and turns along the way. When Adam was young he was afraid to the point of denial to be gay. He loved to shout out that gay people were okay and he supported them, but he was NOT gay himself. To this day he hasn't addressed why he felt that way, but slowly over time he began to accept that he was attracted to boys as well as girls. Then it took time for him to come out about it, and it wasn't until he was in college that he actually did anything. And it was also in college that he finally became open about it, and told his parents. Of course he loved and hated the fight that proceeded between him and his mother afterwards. Adam is actually attracted to girls more often than boys, and he really would like to get married one day and have a family, either through having his own kids or adopting. While he knows he wouldn't mind marrying a guy, he can't honestly deny that he didn't grow up seeing himself with a woman. RELATIONSHIP STATUS. Single. RACE. Causasian. He is about a sixth Irish from his mother's side. His blood also includes many other European ethnicities. RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION. Catholic. Adam isn't even close to devoutly religious. When he first became catholic he went to mass every Sunday, but now he goes when he has the time. His mother's strong disapproval of the religion might have had a hand in his choice, but Adam claims to follow his moderate catholic faith, and maintains what he sees as a close relationship to God. OCCUPATION. Owner of Secret Garden, a fetish specialty clothing shop located in Broomfield. He is a designer and manager at his store, making his hours a little crazy sometimes. He does have a couple of assistants to help him out though. His clothing store is a specialty shop for men and women. Most of what Adam makes are fetish costumes, but he has been known to stretch the limits at times. Mostly he will do whatever the customer asks for. He also loves to make dresses and women's clothing. Luckily it seems there are people looking for such things. Most of Adam's customers are men, and he is beginning to get more customers from outside of town. He has a strict won't ask or tell policy if the man or woman is particularly sensitive about going there. MAGIC DESCRIPTION. Adam's magic began to manifest itself slowly, and he barely even knew it was there until one day he just thought about how it was really impossible for him to be doing what he was. Adam has been starting to take people's measurements with his eyes instead of his hands. All he has to do is look at a body to know how wide or long it is, and he can recall measurements of a person, as long as he has seen them before. Adam also has the ability to glide on air currents. He can't do anything quite as spectacular as superman and could only have someone with him as long as they were light enough to carry, and he would get tired really quick from that. Adam has been known to get high in the air and sort of surf the currents. Sometimes he has problems with his powers and he often gets very clumsy. Being so high up can get a little dangerous if he's not careful, not that he spends time dwelling on thoughts like that. HOUSE. Superhouse, room 3. Living with roommates. PERSONALITY. Adam's personality will change depending on where he is and what he's doing. When it comes to work, Adam becomes dedicated and hardworking. He isn't stony-faced serious and boring, but he does do what he needs to in order to get the job done, and done well. His business does depend on it. Away from working, Adam sometimes reverts back into the mischievous child he grew up being. Always willing to pull a prank or joke around, when he's not busy he can often get on his family's and sometimes even his friend's nerves. His pranks now are usually harmless, as well as few and far between. He just doesn't have as much time to be the jokester he once was.
Being quite vain with himself, Adam puts a lot of effort into how he looks and acts in important situations. He may joke a lot in his social life, but when it comes to anything he cares about he will work hard. His business isn't the only place he strives in, but also when dating he takes a lot of consideration into what he should do and how he should act. This is very reflective of his insecurities. He may try not to show it, but Adam often gets nervous about anything he doesn't do on a regular basis. New experiences are difficult for Adam most of the time, but if he has a reason he'd push himself into them headfirst without looking back. And his reasons can be as simple as wanting to impress someone or trying to fit in with his peers.
Adam has an outer shell that shows confidence and pride. Inside he does have his doubts with himself though. From a young age, he found himself staring into magazines wondering if the people staring back at him were somehow better. They were the models of society. Physically, they were what everyone was supposed to be, right? Adam knew he could never really look like a model, and that wasn't really an area that bothered him. Instead he focused his worries on what they were wearing. Being drawn to clothes and styles, Adam always wanted to wear what they wore and do what they did. He begged his mother for the expensive brands, but they just cost too much. But it didn't matter that he couldn't get what he wanted all the time. He still worked hard to at least make his clothes resemble what he saw in the magazines. This led to people calling him all sorts of names for wearing fashionable clothes and putting a lot of effort into the way he looked. As much as he hated it, he couldn't bring himself to stop wearing what he thought looked good. The opinions of professionals were so much more important to him than those of the kids at school. He didn't really understand why, but he began to look at things differently than the people who called him names or ragged him about the way he was.
A very large contributor to his attitude and love for rebellion was his mother. She was always conservative and a bit overprotective. As a child, he'd always try to run off around the neighborhood to have fun and go on adventures, but she would always bring him back down to reality with a harsh reprimand and a list of chores, most of which he ceaselessly tried to get out of. Not only did he see her as stifling his fun, but he also watched her and the rest of the congregation when she managed to drag him to church. The conservative Baptist Christian approach to life just didn't sit well with Adam, and it didn't help that his mother was such an avid supporter. When she'd preach at home about whatever the pastor had last said, Adam would often mock them both, only to get himself into more trouble. But he welcomed the punishment. It was attention, and it was a form he always knew how to get. It was much safer than trying to make her happy and failing, something he was undeniably afraid of, yet unable to even admit to himself. Adam was also pretty distant from his father. They undoubtedly got along much better; however, they never really interacted as much. Adam never found the things his dad liked to do interesting in the least, and he was nearly impossible to make angry. It was pretty similar to how he felt about his brother. Their temperaments and interests were just too different for Adam to initially want to have anything to do with him. Much later on, Adam actually did become close to the newest member of the family, his little sister. But the problems he had being intimate with his family quickly began to be mirrored in his social life. He didn't have trouble making friends or finding people to hang out with, but he never managed well with getting extremely close to someone. Even the friends he had for long periods of time didn't manage to break his shell, not that they probably even knew it was there unless they tried to ask him about something personal. He does okay with other people's problems, but he's never been comfortable talking about his own woes or insecurities.
Unless he already dislikes a person, it is actually quite difficult to get Adam angry. However, once he really is set off he could hold a grudge forever, something that shows through quite well in his relationship with his mother. Still, Adam almost never becomes violent. He did have his share of fits as a small child and he does love to wrestle around and play fight, but he just doesn't have the urge to fight people physically. He sees it as there are much better, and more interesting, ways to get back at someone.
APPEARANCE. Adam has medium blue eyes and naturally curly, dark brown hair. He used to straighten it, but hasn't done it in years. He always uses products in his hair, and not just for styling but also to protect and keep his hair healthy. He loves to go into salons to get his hair professionally washed and taken care of. He’s stopped growing at 5’11, he would have loved to get that extra inch, and usually weighs somewhere between 152 and 157 lbs. His frame is slender with a little bit of toning thanks to a good deal of running around and some exercise. He has a light skin tone and plenty of freckles, thanks to his mother. His face is oval shaped with a slightly pointed chin that is almost always clean shaven, although he does get a little stubble from time to time.
Being in the fashion industry, Adam tries to make his clothes reflect the latest trends. This isn't always easy though due to high prices of brand names and his low income. But he does what he can, and even if his clothes aren't always the best brand they almost never look bad. He does have his off days though, where it's so much easier to just pull something on and go. The one thing he always puts time into is his hair. Every morning he washes, dries, and styles. He would hate to leave his house with his hair looking messy, and has only done so in emergencies. Adam almost always wears necklaces, bracelets, and sometimes rings. One of his many cross necklaces almost always hangs around his neck, representing his spirituality. He has two piercings in his left earlobe. One is gauged and the other he usually wears a silver hoop in. Adam has a tattoo on his ankle that includes a star, waves, musical notes, and lyrics. Confidence and pride show in Adam's walk. He may also appear somewhat vain, and sometimes can be caught strutting just a little. Adam has a voice that's almost always ready for a joke. He usually seems on the brink of laughter, generally because he's planning something. However, when he's angry it loses all trace of the happy lilt it had before. Adam is always ready with a joke and a smile. His mischievousness is clearly visible in his grin and eyes. He seems like a pretty confident, outgoing guy. Adam takes pride in his appearance and does his best to look good every day.
HISTORY. In high school, Delilah and George met one day in the school's parking lot. Delilah had stayed late for a Beta club meeting, and George had been waiting for his parents to pick him up. She would hate being called nosy, but he was sitting outside by himself, backpack on and a worried look on his face a couple hours after school had been released. After finding out that his parents were supposed to pick him up but hadn't showed yet, Delilah offered to give him a ride in her car. She dropped him off at his house and worried about him a bit through the night. The next day he said his parent's car had broken down on their way back from the city that day, and they couldn't get in touch with someone to come get him in time. Later, his aunt from a little over an hours distance away drove by the school and then by the house to check on him while his parents were waiting for his uncle to go get them. They didn't immediately become friends, but Delilah was a social being and George had such a nice demeanor that she often had the urge to go and sit with him at lunch or talk to him between classes. Their friendship developed and soon they started spending time together outside of school. It wasn't until their senior year that they started dating, and only two years and three months after graduation they got married. However, they decided to wait to start a family until they were both out of college.
Adam did not come as a surprise at all. Delilah was set up as an editor for a local newspaper, and George had settled into a landscaping firm very nicely. They both agreed it was the perfect time to start a family, and Delilah's work could be done easily from home in the late months. So, his birth was planned and they were thrilled the day he came with little complications. The trouble he caused them later was enough to make up for it though.
As soon as Adam could walk, he was off. Causing trouble could have been his middle name, but fortunately it was just Daryl. It wasn't really intentional, he just wanted to do everything, including exploring that dark place down the street in the trees. Unfortunately this meant his mother spent a good deal of time running after him and getting him out of the trouble he always seemed to find. Her reprimands didn't seem to have an effect on him though, in fact if anything it was the opposite. Her chastisements only seemed to spur him on. As he got older it became a little more about causing trouble than just curiosity. He'd do just about anything to tick his mother off, including personal attacks on the family's religious and moral standing. His mother implemented a strict conservative republican view. Adam liked to push the boundaries with off comments and jokes. He'd even whine about going to church, and then would cause a fuss or act immaturely while there. When he was older she finally decided to stop making him go when he loudly proclaimed he wasn't a Christian. The attitude didn't really follow him into other situations. He was pretty normal as far as dealing with other types of authority, causing a little trouble here and there, but he was never as openly defiant as he was with his mother.
When Adam was still a baby his mom became pregnant again. His parents were a little worried about taking care of two babies, but they were determined to raise their children as best as they could. When David came along they were thrilled to have two little boys that would be able to play with each other. Sadly they wouldn't end up being that close. David wasn't anywhere near as adventurous and enjoyed playing inside or at least near enough to his parents to feel safe. Adam saw his brother as boring and envied how much 'good' attention he got. He found his brother a little irritating, as most older brothers do. He often excluded his brother from his little adventures. He would always say he didn't want to be bothered by him and that he would just get in the way. He didn't want anything to happen to his kid brother, and he definitely didn't want to be responsible for it. So, he distanced himself from him. There were plenty of other kids to pay with anyway. As Adam grew so did his fascination with the world around him. He had a particular fascination for people and fashion. He loved anything he could get his hands on that had stunning pictures of people, especially magazines. He looked at what older people wore and what they did, and dreamed about the same for himself.
Time for school came fast, and Adam was more than happy to get out of the house and explore the new opportunities that school allowed, mainly girls, friends, and a new variety of people to harass. He was happy to get away from his family and find other people he could relate to. Adam never really tried to get close to his parents. They were old and weird in his eyes. His mother was annoying and overbearing, and his father was too boring to be considered cool. Adam was always a little embarrassed by his father's love of plants and laid-back, demure nature. In high school Adam always loved to party. He often went out at night to hang out or tried to sneak into clubs. Adam had a job after school, and was pretty good at saving up money. At least until he found a cool outfit to spend it on.
As high school moved along Adam pulled further away from his family, pushing the boundaries of curfews and sneaking his friends into his room at night. His parents really had no idea what was going on in his life and he liked it that way. He could take care of himself. He didn't need some over controlling person breathing down his neck and stifling his life. It wasn't as though she didn't try though. Every time he came home late and every time he went out, she'd ask him a ritual of questions. He always blew her off with the same old answers. Going to work, to hang out at a friend's house, to have sex and make babies that will help overpopulate New York. The bullshit answers were his favorites and they really did piss her off. By the time Adam was a senior in high school it really felt like she'd given up on him to a point. This actually frustrated Adam. He didn't know whether she was finally acknowledging he was old enough to go out and make his own decision or if she just didn't care anymore. Maybe she realized he was just to different to be her son. Like most things, Adam shrugged it off or pushed it away. He would just find something else to occupy his time, and getting into the right college was definitely important.
Toward the end of his senior year, Adam finally told his mom he was definitely going to college. After ecstatically congratulating him, he had finally done something she had been nagging him about for years, she asked where he was going. He proudly declared he had been accepted into Drexel University, a college in New York. Hearing he was staying close to home made her happy, but his demand to live on campus didn't. Adam made his departure while she was listing all the negatives she could think of, and suggesting staying home so he would have someone to look after him. Like he needed it! Of course, he would never take the moment back. He was absolutely certain that had his mom not known he was going to college, he wouldn't have gotten that car for graduation. And as crappy as it was, he'd rather have it than not.
Getting into college was like a breath of fresh air. He was finally far enough away from his family to feel freedom, and he was finally on his way to being a fashion designer. And for the first time, he felt like he could be open about it. He didn't have to worry about leaving his fabrics or designs out for his mom to find. Of course, he told her he was still undecided about his major, and had no idea when he was going to break the news that he was going into such a feminine-full job market, but he wouldn't let that keep him down. Adam didn't want to ruin his scholarships or flunk school, so while he couldn't keep himself from the great parties he did make time to study. Keeping his GPA up was really important.
As the years went by, Adam put more and more work into his classes and less time into partying. The summer after his sophomore year he finally told his mom he was going to be a fashion designer. After much disbelief she was finally convinced after he showed her some of his designs and even an outfit he had been working on. She did have some doubting questions and had to let him know how risky of a business it was to go into, but eventually she saw how determined he was and gave her consent. He was actually glad he had it. Of course once she knew the kind of job he was going to have she had to let him know how many gay men he might be working with and the kind of reputation he might get just from the title. Adam thought it was time to drop the sexuality bomb, and successfully left the house in a storm. He likes to think of it as his best and worst summer holiday ever. In his junior year, Adam managed to get a job as an assistant to a local fashion designer. He then went on to graduate school, getting a master's degree in fashion and a great deal of experience he doesn't know what he'd do without. After graduating, Adam decided it was time to move, and find a place to open the store he'd been dreaming about. There was just something about Broomfield, Colorado that called to him.
At the end of the summer after his graduation, he found a nice house with an open room. The two other residents seemed cool enough, and he found he really just couldn't say no the the charm of the cute house. A little over a year ago he purchased a building and turned it into Secret Garden, his own store. He has had varying success, but he is still working hard to keep it going and make it successful. It wasn't long after moving into superhouse that Adam realised something was a little off about it. The odd fascination with superheroes he first passed off as something one of his roommates was into, but the longer he was there the more he learned about the strangeness of the house. Eventually he also saw that it was having an affect on him, or at least after acknowledging there were strange things happening to him he realised the strange house probably had something to do with it. After the initial shock and disbelief, Adam actually enjoyed the changes. He grew rather fond of the cute house, and he more than benefited from what he gained from it.
